Rules to get tighter for cough syrups containing Codeine

An office personnel from the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) stated that although codeine-based cough syrups won’t be banned for now but there might be introduction of stricter guidelines regarding their distribution and also their supply will be closely monitored by the regulatory authorities.

462 samples of medicines declared adulterated or spurious during the period 2019-21

According to Government data, in 2019-20, 199 drug samples were found to be of spurious nature whereas in the session 2020-21, 263 samples were found to be spurious. A total of 384 people were arrested after the declaration of 462 spurious samples of drugs during this two years time period.
