Can you Manage your Boss?
PharmasState Academy, a learning and development platform for the pharmaceutical industry, conducted a transformative webinar for professionals, delivering vital insights on the case study “Can you Manage your Boss?” This Case Study has been adapted from Peter Drucker’s case study.
The webinar featured panelists Ajay Bhatt and Shashin Bodawala, two pioneers in the pharmaceutical industry, along with Ajay Vaishyampayan, a well-known leader in the infrastructure sector. As Drucker puts it, “managing the boss is your responsibility, not someone else’s.” And, whether they’re a good or horrible boss, they’re in a position to assist you to begin your career. The three respective specialists have a wonderful vision and perspective on the topic.
The session started by Dr. Swati and Vivek Hattangadi, which drew in a large number of attendees as time went on thanks to many acknowledgments by the panelists.
Following a brief introduction of panelists, the event kicked off the conversation with the case study in which the differences between the two employees and how those differences affected the relationship between them and the boss. Given his lack of formal education, Vinod Thatte, the company’s boss, was regarded as illiterate by the company’s oldest and knowledgeable employee, Shridhar Rao. Later, the youngest and most ambitious employee, Frank Lobo, replaced Shridhar which resulted in him warning Frank about Vinod’s work conduct and eventually abandoning the firm. The case study reflects that a boss is a micromanager to the former but a leader to the latter. Years later, Frank’s promotion astounded Shridhar, and Frank attributed his success to Shridhar. Based on it, the speaker, Vivek Hattangadi, answered questions and engaged with the panelists to develop a better understanding.
In the midst of the session, the panelists discuss the notion of developing relationships and trust between the employer and his or her staff. They educate us with some talk that may seem simple, but which will have a significant value for employees and organizations. The round-robin technique brings the topic to life, revealing some fantastic methods. While Ajay Bhatt stated, “Working in a company is a two-way street, and how you manage your boss will always cross paths with how you manage yourself”. Shashin Bodawala added, “When working in a hierarchy, we need to follow and bring value to the organization. What you bring to the table, without a doubt, makes a difference.” Ajay Vaishyampayan added to the conversation by emphasizing the need for connection before persuasion and listening to understand rather than listening to respond.
With the Q&A round, the session was full of knowledge and robust conversation. When Dr. Swati asked people about coming with ego along with our degree, Ajay Bhatt said, “Be humble, but don’t give up on your ambitions.” Ajay Vaishyampayan had an opinion on this, noting, “The degree of alteration in the ego changes from time to time.”
The webinar event highlighted the need for having emotional intelligence in addition to intellect. Speakers stressed the need to control oneself in the same way as one manages one’s employer.
